School Board Policy on Gifted Education
In alignment with the Plymouth School District’s Mission, “To encourage everyone to become his or her personal best through successful learning experiences”, the Plymouth Board of Education provides learning opportunities to the gifted and talented student population. It is the hope of the Board of Education that these opportunities will help this population recognize and develop talents and gifts which will make their own lives worthwhile and contribute to the betterment of this community and world. The Board of Education also recognizes that in order to meet goals of the mission statement for the gifted and talented population, specialized programming is necessary.

Beliefs
· Gifted Children are children first. · The success of the gifted and talented child is the responsibility of everyone; parents, students, and teachers. · We encourage excellence not perfection. · Attitude is just as important as aptitude in determining success. · Being gifted does not preclude hard work. Work tells the world who we are. It should be done with pride. · Every child deserves the challenge to learn something new each day and that struggling to learn can be exciting. Programming
Grades K - 4 At the elementary level, programming consists of a weekly pull-out program.
Grades 5-8 Programming at this level is based on a Resource Room concept. Pre-Assessments in core content areas are used to determine participation. Students scoring 85% or higher are invited to participate in enrichment activities or to explore areas of individual interest. Online courses are most often utilized at the high school level,. However, based on teacher recommendation and student need, online courses through CESA 7 and WCATY may be provided. High School
